The first person to discover the delicious fruit at the core of the eccentric looking pineapple was probably pleasantly surprised to say the least. Pineapples are amongst the tastiest of the fruits, but they also pack a multitude of health benefits as well. Pineapples are loaded with vitamin C Providing roughly 131% of the daily recommendation in just one cup, which is incredibly important and beneficial for our immune system.1 Pineapples are also rich in antioxidants which help to fight chronic inflammation within the body.1 Depending on which side of the fence you fall on, it can even be added to your pizza so you can feel a bit less guilty about getting your pizza fix in!
Lemons, like pineapple are also a great source of vitamin C and can help bolster our body’s immune system. Lemons can also promote weight loss if that is your goal. The fibers in lemons tend to expand in the stomach and can help you feel full for longer.2 Other benefits associated with the consumption of lemons include prevention of kidney stones (if you have ever had one, this alone should be enough to get you to drink more lemon juice), help with digestion, and clearer more vibrant looking skin due to the synthesis of collagen from its high levels of vitamin C.2
Coconuts are unique in the fact that while being a part of the fruit family, they are higher in fat content than in carbohydrate content, which gives them a set of unique health benefits. The fat present in coconuts is mainly in the form of medium-chain-triglycerides which can be used more readily by the body for a source of energy when compared to saturated fats which lends to the promotion of weight loss.3 Coconuts are also plentiful in antioxidants, which as mentioned earlier, help the body fight against chronic inflammation.3 Also, if you close your eyes while eating/drinking it, you can very easily imagine yourself on a beach somewhere which is pretty great in its own right.
